SPIRIT OF WALES FLOURISHES AT CARDIFF WATERSIDE

Pupils from schools across South East Wales gathered at Cardiff Waterside to launch an outdoor exhibition of artwork from schools across Wales on the theme of what it means to be Welsh. The pupils took part in the Art, Craft and Technology competitions at Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s National Eisteddfod in Carmarthenshire last year. The exhibition, which has been arranged by the Urdd in conjunction with the Cardiff Waterside team, is displayed on the hoardings surrounding the new development site, close to both the Wales Millennium Centre and the Welsh Assembly Debating Chamber.

The £150 million Cardiff Waterside development, which is being developed by Morley Fund Management on behalf of Norwich Union Funds, will provide 550,000 sq ft of Grade A offices that could attract significant inward investment to Cardiff. The project is managed on Morley’s behalf by Knight Frank LLP and as Gus Coke, Associate at Knight Frank said:

"Cardiff Waterside will play an important role in the future of Cardiff - and we hope, in the future of Wales – so we are delighted that young people from across the country have taken part in this exhibition and congratulate them all on the very high standard of their work."

"The development is already attracting interest from potential occupiers and one of the reasons that organisations are considering relocating to Cardiff is the quality of life that their employees can enjoy in Wales. The young people’s artwork gives a strong impression of the spirit of Wales and we are sure that it will be widely appreciated."

Efa Gruffudd Jones, Urdd Gobaith Cymru’r Chief Executive commented: “We are delighted to be able to display the talents and creativity of our Urdd members on the hoardings at Cardiff Bay. These are works from schools across all parts of Wales and we look forward to proudly showing our members their work in such a visible manner the next time they come and visit our residential centre, Gwersyll yr Urdd Caerdydd, at Wales Millennium Centre.”

Construction work at Cardiff Waterside started during 2007 and the hoardings exhibition will stay in place until each section of the development is complete. It is sponsored by Morley Fund Management, MEA, Scott Brownrigg, HBG, Arup, Sir Robert McAlpine and Davis Langdon LLP.
